Located in Chatham, New Jersey, Ann has been and Certified Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner(W.D.P.) for 7 years and was Special Education Teacher for over 40 years.
Ann has tutored multiple children to success through all 12 stages of the Wilson Reading System, and has also assisted children using the Wilson Fundation Program. Students have received above average scores in phonological awareness, phonics and high frequency word recognition.
Her great joy is to see a child grow from a struggling reader to a child who can say, “I got this.”
Ann is mom to a brave, adventurous, fire captain, and spends quality time training her cute, extremely social dog.

Preschool through Adult
When Instructing Pre-K through Grade 1, the Wilson Fundation Program is utilized. Fundations is designed to establish foundational skills for students in reading, spelling, and handwriting using engaging, multimodal techniques.
For grades 2-12 and adults with a language-based learning disability, such as dyslexia, the Wilson Reading System(WRS) is implemented. Wilson Reading System, informed by the science of reading and based on more than three decades of data, is designed for students in Grades 2–12 and adults with a language-based learning disability, such as dyslexia, providing intensive Structured Literacy instruction for even the most challenged reader. Wilson Reading System is based on phonological coding research and Orton-Gillingham principles.

Research and instructional experience have clearly proven that individuals with mild, moderate, and even severe dyslexia can successfully learn to read and write through an intensive, evidence-based program delivered by a skilled educator.

One full lesson consists of all three Blocks of instruction, Word Study, Spelling/Writing, Fluency/Comprehension. A session could consist of one or more blocks. Sessions will run 60 to 90 minutes long depending on the student an whether the session is conducted on line or in person. The ideal is to complete two full lessons a week. The higher the number of sessions per week the greater the progress.

Services are provided initially in person at your home within a 30 minutes radius of Chatham, NJ. When appropriate, your student can be transitioned to online sessions. Online sessions provide the ability to provide more intensive and consistent daily weekday sessions.

Both are explicit teaching systems that all share certain instructional features, including highly explicit, systematic teaching; prompt, targeted affirmative and corrective feedback; attention to prerequisite skills; and ongoing data-based decision-making. These individual programs and approaches differ from each other in certain details of assessment and intervention; however, they share the key features of Structured Literacy.
Wilson Language System and Wilson Accredited Partners have received the Accreditation Plus designation by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). This designation recognizes that Wilson Reading Certifications align with the IDA’s Standards for Teachers of Reading. The Accreditation Plus designation is the highest level of recognition by IDA.

Structured Literacy is a comprehensive approach to literacy instruction grounded in the science of reading that research has shown is effective for all students and essential for students with dyslexia. The instruction emphasizes highly explicit and systematic teaching of all of the foundational elements that are critical for reading and writing proficiency. These include phonemic awareness, phonics and word recognition, fluency, vocabulary, listening and reading comprehension, and written expression.
The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) coined the term Structured Literacy to unify and encompass the many evidence-based programs and approaches that are aligned to their Knowledge and Practice Standards.

Wilson Dyslexia Practitioners have extensive training to diagnostically teach students identified with a language‐based learning disability, such as dyslexia, at the beginning levels of encoding and reading.
Aditionally, Ann has completed advanced Wilson Reading System training and a practicum to instruct students at advanced levels of encoding and reading.

Structured Literacy education is based primarily on the Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading (KPS) which were developed by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA).

If the Wilson Reading System(WRS) is determined to be the correct program, tutoring will start with lessons in the first step of the program. The pacing is based on the student’s needs. Some students may quickly pass through the first few steps of the program focused on learning techniques. Committed students may complete the program in two to three years. Individual progress varies based on their strengths.
